SMALL DONATION – BIG IMPRESSION!
HEKS uses the donations in places where there is vision for change and the will to see ideas through to fruition, with village communities, production associations or smallholder cooperatives being given the chance to tap their full potential and exploit their opportunities.
In Bangladesh, for example...
A donation of 50 Swiss Francs will allow 10 weaver families in Bangladesh to attend a two-day training course. This gives them some insight into the principles of marketing and the importance of fashion for their work, thus allowing them to sell their saris for a good price.
... or in the Democratic Republic of the Congo...
A donation of 100 Swiss Francs is sufficient in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for the tools and materials to make a fish-pond. The families can sell the fish at the market to earn some cash which they urgently need for clothes, medicines and their children’s education.
... or in Brazil
A donation of 150 Swiss Francs is sufficient to train a Brazilian smallholder family in organic farming. The cooperative helps to market their crops, processing various types of fruit in its own factory. The regular customer base already includes 30 schools and nurseries which means a secure livelihood for the farming families.
