Give a Goat Campaign! 30 Swiss Francs for a life without hunger

The majority of people who suffer from malnutrition live in rural areas. If the crops fail the only thing they have left in many cases is starvation. HEKS is seeking to help these needy people with its campaign “Give a Goat!”.

The campaign stand is designed to persuade passers-by to make a token investment of 30 Swiss Francs in a goat. 30 Swiss Francs for a life without hunger. Indeed, that is the approximate cost of a goat in Ethiopia. This investment goes into a fund for small projects where it is earmarked for development campaigns aimed at reducing starvation and poverty in the poorest countries in the south. Seed capital is loaned to the needy people taking part in small projects at local level. This will enable them to buy not just goats, but other farm animals, seeds, tools or a piece of land.

A small donation to combat starvation will help someone to get started and make a big difference. The “goat cycle” is a sustainable development which is set in motion with few resources because a goat will help a family to get started, providing milk and manure and giving birth to kids. If just one of the kids is passed on, this will mean that yet another family will benefit from this animal.

The campaign stands are manned by HEKS employees who can answer questions and give information about the projects. Passers-by who buy and donate a goat can have their photograph taken and then take their print with them.

The goats can also be donated online at www.gibegeiss.ch (German) and www.1chevrecontrelafaim.ch (French).
