  • HEKS infoSchweiz – Social integration for recognised refugees and temporary admissions

  • Canton of Berne

  • Temporary admissions and recognised refugees have only a short time to find their feet in Switzerland and build a new life.

People attending foundation courses are given basic information about life in Switzerland and become familiar with public institutions in their residential environment. They find out about budgeting and affordable shopping facilities as well as health and nutrition issues, and get to know support groups and information centres. Participants come up with ideas on how to use their free time and are given an introductory outline of the education system and provision for integration.

The advanced training courses are aimed at people who would like to develop and use their skills and resources further. People attending the courses receive information on the insurance and social insurance systems and learn about the Swiss Constitution, as well as their rights and duties as citizens. They are told about education and training opportunities and get to grips with job applications and communication.

Further measures to attend follow-up courses are planned in collaboration with, and accompanied by, social workers.
