New prospects for children and unemployed
Ukraine

The economic situation in the extreme west of the Ukraine is bad. It has not been possible to this day to replace the jobs which were lost in Transcarpathia together with the state establishments. There are some new investors but wage levels are very low.
Many young people have therefore lost hope of any real prospects in their own country. They are drifting away, mainly to the neighbouring countries of Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
In a bid to counteract this trend HEKS has set up a drop-in centre in collaboration with its local partner organisation ADVANCE and is offering basic and advanced training courses in its own training centre.Aims:
The aims of the project are to improve the social structures in the region through counselling, communication and education and, by so doing, to bring people back into the labour market or improve their chances of employment.
Initiatives:
ADVANCE has its own advisory centre where people can seek help. Frequent changes in legislation can cause major problems for people as they lack up-to-date information.
Officially recognised basic and advanced training courses are offered in the Perspectiva training centre. In addition to the training courses in computer skills and languages there is a new course for social workers.
ADVANCE also regularly cares for groups of street children. It nurtures their social skills and helps them with schooling issues.
